One person was injured when a wild elephant tried to attack two persons who were on duty in a banana plantation in Lingapuram area of Sirumugai town panchayat.
Coimbatore: There are more than 100 tenements in Lingapuram area under Sirumugai town panchayat near Mettupalayam. Since the area is densely forested and Bhavanisagar is a water-logged area, there is a large movement of elephants.
Moreover, due to the high flow of water in the area, farmers are cultivating bananas in large numbers. Meanwhile, a single wild elephant entered the banana plantation owned by Senthil and Pushpa near the Lingapuram forest department check post in the wee hours of the morning.
The wild elephant then tried to attack the two men who were on security duty there. Shocked to see this, both of them tried to escape.
Then, unexpectedly, both of them fell down while running. However, they fled and took shelter in a safe place. As a result, there was a minor injury.
In the meantime, the wild elephant smashed and damaged the shed in the banana plantation where they were on security duty.
