Farmer attempts to set himself on fire with family in front of Tirupur Collectorate

Sampath, a farmer along with his family, tried to set himself on fire at the Tirupur District Collectorate, claiming that a neighbouring landowner was issuing death threats over a land boundary issue. The police on duty at the Collectorate stopped the farmer.



Tirupur: In a shocking incident, a farmer tried to set himself and his family on fire at the Tirupur District Collectorate alleging that a neighbouring landowner was issuing death threats over a land boundary dispute.

Sampath, a farmer from Kavuthampalyam in Tirupur district lives with his wife and son, on six acres of agricultural land owned by him. A boundary dispute arose with Nallasamy regarding the estate near Sampath's farm. On September 27th night, Sampath stopped the water motor as usual and returned home.

Thereafter, Nallasamy and his family allegedly removed the wire fence around Sampath's garden and also broke the CCTV cameras. When questioned about this, Nallasamy reportedly resorted to abusive language and threatened to kill Sampath with a JCB vehicle.

Sampath alleged that despite lodging a complaint with the police, no action was taken in this regard. A distraught Sampath along with his wife and son hence poured kerosene on their bodies at the Tirupur District Collectorate in an attempt at suicide.



The police, who were on security duty at the Collectorate, immediately stopped the family's suicide bid and took them for questioning.



Following this, the District Collector who received the petitions assured that a proper inquiry would be conducted and action will be taken.
