Police have arrested four persons, including an auto rickshaw driver for cutting birthday cake for Ashok Kumar (30), a sales representative of a private company on Edayar Street and are on the lookout for two other absconders.
Coimbatore: Police have arrested four persons, including a sales representative, for celebrating his birthday by cutting a cake with a machete on Idayar Street road.
Mariyappan is working as a special assistant inspector at variety hall road police station. He was on patrol duty on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti last night when a video was received on his mobile phone.
In the video, six young men can be seen sitting in the middle of the road in the middle of the night, cutting a cake with a machete and celebrating their birthday. The policeman who watched the video again to find out the place where the incident took place confirmed that the incident took place on Edayar Street.
He informed the Variety Hall Road police station about this and went to the Edayar Street area in a patrol vehicle along with a few more policemen. Upon enquiry, it was revealed that the video was shot on 25th of September.
Investigations revealed that the video was taken during the birthday celebrations of Ashok Kumar (30), who works as a sales rep in a private company based in Selvapuram.
Following this, the police arrested Ashok Kumar of Selvapuram and arrested his friends Aravind Kumar (27) from Selvapuram, Dinesh Kumar (23), a labourer from Vadavalli P N Pudur and Parthiban of Gandhipark.
It is to be noted that several cases are already pending against Ashok Kumar, Dinesh Kumar and Parthiban.
In this case, the police produced all the four arrested in court and sent them to jail. They are also on the lookout for two others involved in the case.
It is to be noted that strict rules are in place against cutting cakes with weapons like daggers or machetes in the name of birthday celebrations.
