Coimbatore: Thousands of people thronged the Flower Market area in Coimbatore on the occasion of Ayudha Pooja to be celebrated tomorrow. The entire area wore a festive look as people flocked to the to buy flowers in bulk and retail.
People are showing interest in celebrating Ayudha Pooja and Saraswati Puja festivals this year in a grand manner, which have been subdued for the last two years due to covid-19.
People are flocking to Coimbatore flower market area to buy various items like pori, flower, incense stick, banana leaf, banana torans, colour papers to decorate factories, etc.
While the prices of flowers have been on the rise for the past two weeks due to Navratri festival, the price of flowers is being sold up to Rs 1,000 ahead of the Ayudha Pooja to be celebrated tomorrow.
Jasmine was sold at Rs 800 to Rs 1,000 per kg. Jati Malli rs.600, Sevandhi Rs.400, Rose Rs.320 per kg, Arali Rs.300, Lotus Rs.20, Chicken Kondai Flower Rs.100, Marugu Rs.30, Marikolundu Rs.30, Marikolundu Rs.30, Nandhiya Taluk Rs.200, Sampangi Rs.30, Chendumalli Rs.100, Vadamalli Rs.100, Rs 5 per palm leaf, Rs 20 per bunch of banana, Rs 160 per kg of lemon.
Similarly, white poosani was sold at Rs 40 per kg, coconut at Rs 15-30, sathukudi at Rs 100 per kg, orange at Rs 150, pomegranate at Rs 220, apple at Rs 150, grapes at Rs 120 and guava at Rs 100 per kg.
The traders are happy that people are buying flowers and puja items in retail and bulk irrespective of the price rise.
