The Pope's Envoy to India and Nepal, Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, was received jubilantly and took part in various events in Coimbatore district. He arrived in Coimbatore at 2.20 p.m. yesterday by a flight from Vatican City.
Coimbatore: The Pope's Envoy to India and Nepal, Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, arrived in Coimbatore at 2.20 pm yesterday by a flight from the Vatican city to attend various programmes in Coimbatore district.
On his first arrival in Coimbatore, he was accorded a grand welcome at the airport under the leadership of Bishop Thomas Aquinas.
Thereafter, at 3 p.m., he went to St. Michael's Archbishop's Church at Townhall in Coimbatore. He participated in a special mass held at 6 p.m.
He reached Karumathampatti at 7:45 am today (Sunday) and was accorded a grand welcome. After participating in the programme, they will participate in the programme at Puliyakulam Anthoniyar Temple at 3.15 pm.
Thereafter, he will go to the Infant Jesus Church in Kovaipudur at 4 pm and at 5:45 p.m. to the Church of Christ King at Kattoor. Later, tomorrow (Monday) at 11:15 a.m., he will participate in a special mass at St. Francis Xavier's Church, Sowripalayam.
Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli will begin his tour of Coimbatore after meeting the priests and saints of the diocese. He is expected to take off from Coimbatore at 2:15 pm tomorrow by air.
Police security has been tightened in front of churches in Coimbatore ahead of his visit.
