P G Mallya, General Manager, Southern Railway inaugurated the event on September 28 and said that it is a historic event that the Ooty hill train engine, powered by high-speed diesel, has been designed at the Ponmalai Railway Workshop in Trichy.
The Nilgiris: Southern Railway General Manager P G Mallya inaugurated the high-speed diesel hill train engine developed at Ponmalai Railway Depot in Trichy for public use.
Southern Railway General Manager P G Mallya flagged off the newly constructed 66th diesel engine and the Nilgiris-Ooty hill train engines at ponmalai railway depot in Trichy.
Speaking to reporters after the inauguration ceremony, he said, "It is a historic event. The Ponmalai Workshop has achieved many achievements in its 100-year history. In this regard, the ooty hill train engine, which is powered by high-speed diesel, has been designed at ponmalai railway workshop in Trichy.
I congratulate the workers who worked hard to make this engine, which has been developed entirely on indigenous technology. It will take some time for the 'Vande Bharat Yojana' to come to Tamil Nadu. Some of the coaches used for them are expected to arrive in the current financial year.
Also, there are already five trains running under bharat gaurav scheme in Tamil Nadu. An additional train will run this month and 3 trains will run in October and November.As the project is doing well in Tamil Nadu, several locations have been selected."
Chief General Manager of the Workshop Shyamdar Ram, Deputy General Manager D L Ganesh, railway workshop officials and others were present on the occasion.
