At the town council meeting held in Valparai, demands were made to immediately restore the damaged street lights, identify the areas where elephants are roaming and take precautionary measures and speed up the development works in the city area.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore Valparai municipal council meeting was held yesterday under the chairmanship of municipal city council president Akash Sundaravalli and vice president Senthil municipal commissioner Balu. 21 municipal ward members participated in this meeting.
Earlier, the city council was thanked after the work started to rehabilitate Moodys Road, which had been pending for a long time.
As wildlife movement has started to increase in all estate areas, street lights have been requested to be kept ready.
Talking about this, the municipal councillors pointed out that the street lights in various estate areas are broken and there is also a shortage of street lights.
Also, the members said that they had discussed the issue of street lights in the city council meeting three months ago, but no action had been taken in this regard. Therefore, they immediately demanded to solve the problem of street lighting in all estate areas.
Ravichandran, a member of the 15th ward who spoke after this, said that no development work has been done in 21 wards for six months. He questioned whether Valparai municipality has been set aside? He questioned the chairman of the city council and the municipal commissioner on the allegation of suspicion.
Responding to his question, the Chairman of the City Council said that he was waiting for permission from the higher authorities to carry out the development work and that the work would be started soon after receiving the permission.
After this, the 21st ward member Uma Maheshwari said, "Rumors are spreading that the Tamil Nadu Tea Estate Corporation is going to close down. As there is a lot of movement of elephants in Singona area, street lights should be installed in front of the houses in the estate area. Action should be taken", he said.
Subsequently, Ward 9 Member Makudeshwaran expressed his gratitude to the city council for the approval of the former Chief Minister Kalaignar and Ambedkar statue to be placed in the city area.
