Security has been beefed up at the PFI headquarters in Kottaimedu area on the orders of the Deputy Commissioner, Madhavan and the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner K Balakrishnan, in the wake of the Central Government's announcement imposing a five-year ban on the PFI and its branch organisations.
Coimbatore: In response to the Central Government's sensational order banning the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its branches for five years, police have been deployed at the Coimbatore district office of the Popular Front of India in Kottaimedu area of Coimbatore.

Last week, raids were conducted across India at locations owned by the PFI. The National Investigation Agency arrested 11 people from Tamil Nadu and 247 people across India. Thereafter, the Central Government announced a five-year ban on PFI and its branches, and that the ban on PFIs will come into effect immediately.

The ban has shocked PFIs who alleged that the Central Government has been taking measures to sideline minorities.

Coimbatore City Police are thus patrolling important sensitive places in Coimbatore including Town Hall, Ukkadam and Gandhipuram.
