One of the arrested is Tamilselvan, a member of the Hindu Munnani pelted stones at the car of Harish, a member of the Hindu Youth Front, following a clash over the installation of the idol on the occasion of Vinayaka Chaturthi. Hariharan, who has also been arrested, does not belong to any organisation.
Coimbatore: Miscreants pelted stones at the car of Harish, the Secretary of Mettupalayam City Hindu Youth Front, Coimbatore district on Tuesday. The car had been parked in front of his house. The Mettupalayam police had registered a case and were investigating.
The Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police, V Badrinarayanan who met the media later at 10 pm said, "Five special forces have been formed and an investigation was conducted regarding the attack on the car of Harish, a member of the Hindu Youth Front. The culprits were identified within a few hours of the incident. Accordingly, Tamilselvan and Harikaran from the same area have been arrested and it has been revealed that both are criminals based on CCTV footage. Harish and Tamilselvan had a conflict over the installation of an idol during Vinayagar Chaturthi and hence Tamilselvan pelted Harish's car with stones. Tamilselvan, who was arrested, is a member of the Hindu Front organization and Hariharan who was arrested with him does not belong to any organization and strict action will be taken against them."
The Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police, V Badrinarayanan also added that investigation was on regarding the incident of the petrol bomb attack in Mettupalayam area and the culprits will be arrested soon.
