Coimbatore: A fine was imposed on shop owners for selling banned gutkha and cigarettes during a raid conducted by the health department at a petty shop and bakery at Kattampatti near Kinathukadavu in Coimbatore district.
Acting on a tip-off that banned gutkha and cigarettes were being sold in grocery shops, petty shops and bakeries at Kattampatti near Kinathukadavu, the health department conducted a raid on Saturday.
Health Supervisor Rajavel, Health Inspector Gunasekaran, Anand, Gautham, Inba Arasan and others participated in the inspection, which was led by Kinathukadavu Block Medical Officer Chitra.
They also imposed fines on those selling banned cigarettes and gutkha in the shops and warned the shop owners that strict action would be taken against them if they were found selling the banned items.
