Four two-wheeler patrol vehicles were introduced in Coonoor, Nilgiris district. This initiative is expected not only to -prevent crime but also to control traffic congestion and aid tourists in the district.
Nilgiris: Nilgiris, known as the Queen of Hills and one of the renowned tourist destinations in the world draws over 31 lakh tourists, both domestically and internationally. In order to prevent crimes like chain snatching, street robbery etc. and considering the safety of tourists and local residents, the police have beefed up security measures in the district.
The statement released by the District Police Monitoring Office explained that "One vehicle will be used to patrol major areas of Coonoor from Coonoor bus stand to Otu Pattarai via Mount Pleasant Road, while the second vehicle will be used via Defense Service Staff College, Military Centre and Black Bridge. Similarly, a third vehicle will be deployed from Coonoor bus station to Bandishola via Sims Park, Bedford, YMCA, Providence College and a fourth vehicle will be deployed from Katta Bettu to Aravenu, under Kotagiri police station limits."
