Tirupur: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been conducting searches at the offices of Islamic organisations, including the Popular Front of India, across the country since this morning.

In Tamil Nadu, the NIA conducted searches at 16 locations including Chennai, Chengalpattu, Trichy, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar, Dindigul, Kanyakumari, Nagercoil, Coimbatore, Cuddalore, Ramanathapuram, Theni and Tenkasi.

Meanwhile, the Popular Front of India (PFI) staged a protest in Tirupur alleging that the central government was resorting to repression in the name of NIA raids.

Slogans were raised against the central government at the protest.

A large number of Muslims, including SDPI district president Basheer, participated in the protest, which was led by Popular Front of India district president Habibur Rahman at the CTC depot on Kangayam Road.
