Petitions filed seeking cancellation of the tender malpractice cases registered by DVAC against former Minister Velumani are being heard in the Madras High Court today.
Coimbatore: AIADMK former minister S.P Velumani has filed petition to cancel the cases against him related to tender malpractice and it will be heard in the Madras High Court today.
During the last AIADMK regime, there were allegations of irregularities in awarding of 'tenders' for various works in Chennai and Coimbatore Municipal Corporations. In this regard, the Anti-Corruption Department registered a case against former AIADMK minister S.P. Velumani and his aides.
In this case, a petition was filed on behalf of former minister S. P. Velumani, pointing out that the case has been registered for political purposes and that the investigation has already reported that there is no evidence for the allegations. Those petitions came up for hearing before the 'first bench' consisting of MN Bhandari, who was then the Chief Justice, and Justice N. Mala.
On behalf of the government, Advocate General Shanmugasundaram said, "A separate judge should hear the petition. Raju, the Additional Solicitor General of the Central Government, had questioned how he can appear in this case. The first bench rejected the objections raised by the Tamil Nadu government and adjourned the hearing to September 19. However, the case was not listed for hearing yesterday.
Meanwhile, Chief Advocate Hasan Mohammad Jinnah appeared before the First Bench comprising Presiding Chief Justice M. Duraisamy and Justice Sundar Mohan and requested to take up the case for trial. In this scenario, the case is coming up for hearing today.
