Thangam, a resident of Inchipara Estate, Lower Division near Valparai was attacked by two bears while returning home after delivering milk.
Coimbatore: There was a stir in Valparai after locals heard that a person was seriously injured after being attacked by bears near Valparai.
Thangam (53) hails from Inchiparai Estate, Lower Division near Valparai, and rears cows in the estate and sells milk to households. On Sunday, after he delivered milk as usual to houses and was returning home, two bears in a tea garden area attacked him. His left hand was seriously injured in the attack.

Bystanders heard Thangam's screams and rescued him and took him immediately to the Valparai Government Hospital where he was administered first aid and sent to Coimbatore for further treatment. Thangam's relatives and members of the public who had gathered at the hospital confronted Sarakar Manikandan of the Forest Department who also arrived at the hospital to enquire about the incident and started an argument with him. As a result, there was commotion for a while until police dispersed the crowd in the area.
