While patrolling the Pollachi Forest Range under the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve, Forest Department officials found the dead elephant floating in a stream in Pacha Thanni range area of Sethumadai East Division.
Coimbatore: In a tragic incident, a male elephant was found dead in the Pollachi Forest Range. While patrolling the Pollachi Forest Range under the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve on Thursday, Forest Department officials found a 40-year-old dead male wild elephant floating in a stream in Pacha Thanni range area of Sethumadai East Division.
Shocked by the sight, the forest officials informed the higher officials. On the orders of the Field Director and Deputy Director of Anaimalai Tiger Reserve, in the presence of Assistant Conservator of Forests, Selvam and volunteers, the autopsy of the dead wild elephant was carried out on Friday today by Forest Veterinary Officer Vijayaraghavan and Veterinarian Dr. Govindaraj.
In the preliminary study, the medical team ascertained that the male wild elephant may have died naturally due to old age and that the age of the male wild elephant could be around 40. Forest officials also informed that a pair of tusks have also been recovered from the body of the dead male elephant.
