Income Tax and Central Enforcement Directorate (ED) conduct raids at SDPI party office in Coimbatore

Over 100 SDPI party cadres gathered at the SDPI's Coimbatore district headquarters in Kottaimedu last night following the raid.


Coimbatore: The Income Tax Department and Central Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials conducted a raid at the SDPI party office at Kottaimedu in Coimbatore on Tuesday night. There was a commotion as SDPI party cadres gheraoed and raised slogans condemning the raid.

The Coimbatore district headquarters of the SDPI party is located at Kottaimedu in Coimbatore. The Central Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials along with the Income Tax department conducted a raid at the SDPI headquarters on Tuesday night. During the raid, SDPI District President Mustafa and party functionaries were present.

The officials, who inspected the account documents, including the party's fund collection, have also examined the information recorded on a computer at the office. It is said that the Income Tax officials have sought details on whether there was transfer of funds from abroad. They also investigated the recent money transfers.

The raid which began at 8.30 pm lasted for several hours. In the wake of the raid, police were deployed in the area for security reasons.



The SDPI party functionaries and workers gathered in large numbers in front of the party office and raised slogans of protest on receiving information about the Income Tax raid. Due to this, there was a commotion in Kottaimedu area.



While the police controlled the crowd, additional police were deployed as a large number of party men gathered when the raid was being done.



Since the area where the party office is located is a narrow road, there was a major traffic jam throughout the area. The raid was completed at around 11 pm. Later, the officials summoned the SDPI party functionaries to the Income Tax office to brief them about all the details. It is reportedly that no documents were seized during the raid.
