Miscreants vandalised the restaurant at Kannarpalayam near Karamadai the night before its opening due to its name and attacked the owner.
Coimbatore: In a shocking incident, miscreants vandalised a new restaurant at Kannarpalayam near Karamadai the night before its opening due to its name.
Prabhakaran, a native of Kannarpalayam had just set up a new hotel and put up a board naming it as 'Thanthai Periyar Restaurant.' The restaurant was to be opened on Wednesday morning but some miscreants vandalised the hotel on Tuesday night.

The vandals smashed the hotel's tables, glass, name board and many other items. Prabhakaran who was in the hotel was vulgarly abused by a student who asked him if he should run a hotel by the name of Periyar who advocated atheism.

Thereafter, the student allegedly attacked Prabhakaran who was injured and later admitted to a private hospital.
While Periyar organisations have strongly condemned the incident, Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam General Secretary, K Ramakrishnan has issued a statement that an all-party protest will be held on Wednesday to condemn the violence purported reportedly by members of the Hindu Munnani.
"Prabhakaran was supposed to open the Thanthai Periyar Hotel at Kannarpalayam in Karamadai Union of Coimbatore district today.

Yesterday, September 13, some members of the Hindu Munnani barged into the hotel and asked, "How can you start a shop in the name of Periyar here in our fort?" Prabhakaran's wife and staff were brutally attacked and the shop ransacked. I would like to inform you that a protest will be held on behalf of all the political parties under my leadership near the Karamadai bus stand on Wednesday, September 14 at 4 pm to condemn this anarchic attack," announced K Ramakrishnan.
