The man reportedly committed suicide after being forced to pay heavy interest even above the loan amount availed from Bajaj Finance, and hence relatives besieged the company and protested on the road.
Tirupur: Rajesh Kannan lives in the Angaripalayam region of Tirupur with his wife and two children. He was a painter, while his wife worked in a private baniyan company in the same area.
Three years ago, Rajesh availed a loan of Rs.1.25 lakh through Bajaj Finance in Tirupur's Kumar Nagar area. Rajesh had reportedly paid all the loan installments regularly until the Covid pandemic. On account of non-payment of monthly installments, Bajaj Finace had allegedly sent repeated threatening notices to Rajesh and asked him to pay an interest of Rs.2 lakhs.
Unable to handle the constant financial pressure, the distraught painter ended his life by suicide by jumping in front of a train on Uthukuli Road, on Thursday evening.
Rajesh Kannan left a suicide note in his shirt pocket which laid the blame squarely on Bajaj Finance for his decision to end hi slife. Following this, Rajesh's enraged relatives besieged the Bajaj Finance office in Kumar Nagar on Friday.
After none of the employees at Bajaj Finance provided a suitable response, the relatives squatted in front of the company and started protesting, and also staged a road blockade.
After police arrived and assured the relatives that appropriate action would be taken, the road barricade which had been in place for more than an hour was lifted. Traffic on Tirupur-Avinashi Road was disrupted for a while as a result of the protest.
