Dindigul MP P. Velusamy in a letter to the Railway Minister has requested to reroute the Amrita express to Coimbatore, which will be just another 40 km travel but would benefit about 1500 passengers from Coimbatore via Palani, Oddanchatram, Dindigul, Kodai Road and Madurai in this daily Intercity Express train service.
Coimbatore: If the existing Amrita express is rerouted from Palakkad to Coimbatore, the service will beused extensively by passengers - pilgrims and businessmen from Coimbatore via Palani, Oddanchatram, Dindigul, Kodai Road and Madurai, said P. Velusamy, Member of Parliament of Dindigul district, noted MP P. Velusamy of Dindigul district.
In a letter to Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, MP P. Velusamy requested that Train number 16343/ 16344 Amrita Express which was named after Mata Amritanandamayi, a well-known spiritual leader should be rerouted from Palakkad to Coimbatore. If rerouted, the train service will be extensively by passengers from Coimbatore via Palani, Oddanchatram, Dindigul, Kodai Road and Madurai.
By rerouting this train to Coimbatore in both the directions, about 1500 people in addition to the existing passengers can travel safely in this train. The rerouting will cost about 40 kms additionally in a trip and take a little more time in the current schedule.
If rerouted the load factor of the train will improve considerably. With textile hubs of Tamil Nadu -- Dindigul and Coimbatore will largely benefit, along with a good additional revenue of a minimum of Rs.90 lakhs per month, only due to the passengers at Coimbatore.
Moreover, when this train passes through Ettimadai, the knowledge hub of Amritanandamayi the true purpose will be achieved, he noted in his letter.
