Officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence intercepted seven passengers of Air Arabia Flight from Sharjah to Coimbatore. During a check, they found 3.5 kgs of gold concealed. The estimate value of the seized gold has been valued at Rs.1.83 crore. Further investigation is in progress.
Coimbatore: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) have seized 3.5 kg of gold at the Coimbatore International Airport here, on Monday.
According to DRI Coimbatore officials, based on a tip-off, seven passengers of Air Arabia flight from Sharjah to Coimbatore were intercepted at the Coimbatore airport. While they were subjected to thorough checking, 3.5 kg of gold was found to be concealed in waist belt.
The gold was concealed in the waist belt, crude chains and bangles. Altogether the total quantity of foreign origin gold seized is 3.5 kgs valued at Rs.1.83 crore, according to DRI.
The DRI officials also arrested one passenger named Firoz Rahman (30) of Kozhikode for carrying gold more than exceeded.limit, Rs.50 lakhs. Further investigation is in progress.
