Several AIADMK functionaries, including S P Velumani, Coimbatore North MLA Amman K Arjunan were present to pay homage to VOC.
Coimbatore: To commemorate the 151st birth anniversary of V O Chidambaranar, both the general public and political parties have been flocking to pay homage to VOC by garlanding the 'yoke' drawn by him at the Coimbatore Central Jail.

As part of this, MDMK General Secretary Vaiko also paid floral tributes to the yoke drawn by V O Chidambaranar.

Addressing the media later, Vaiko said, "It was in this jail that VOC was subjected to much torture. I have come to touch the "chekku" pulled by VOC and salute it."

Reminiscing about the history of the freedom struggle that VOC was an integral part of, Vaiko highlighted that if "Thoothukudi" was mentioned, the name VOC would be rembered lifelong. Retorting to a query his opinion on placing a picture of PM Modi in Government offices, Vaiko said, "When we are talking about an eminent leader, why are you asking about someone else?"

When AIADMK whip and former Minister S P Velumani returned after paying their respects to VOC at the same venue, Vaiko and S P Velumani greeted each other as a mark of respect and enquired about each other's well-being.
