Coimbatore: As the Onam festival approaches, the prices of flowers will increase further, florists have said.
Kerala's traditional festival of Onam is going to be celebrated on the 8th.
Generally, during the Onam festival, excessive flowers (Malli, Mullai, other colour flowers) are exported from Coimbatore to various places including Palakkad, Mannargadu in Kerala state. In this case, this year, the prices of flowers are high due to the continuous festivals like Ganesha Chaturthi and Mugurtham days.
Price of flowers has increased due to the consecutive days of Mugurtham, which is coming up next week on Onam festival.
Regarding this, florists said that jasmine and mullai flowers will have a good price till the 8th. The prices will go up even more when the Mukurtham days come together.
As far as colored flowers are concerned, most of the business is done around the Onam festival. It is the biggest flower trade of the year. The price will be increased till the 8th.
'Sendu Malli' is mostly traded from Coimbatore. Rose and 'Arali' flowers will be sold for around 300 rupees. Jasmine and Mullai flowers will be sold up to Rs 1000.
If there is rain in Kerala, the price is likely to decrease.
