Coimbatore: In Thondamuthur, officials of the Food Safety Department and the police sealed a petty shop for selling banned gutka products.
Sub-Inspector Arulprakash and Food Safety Department Officer Narasimhan conducted raids at shops in Thondamuthur police station limits on Thursday.
During the raid, it was found that gutka was repeatedly being sold at a petty shop in Kuberapuri which had earlier been warned. The Food Safety Department had earlier twice imposed a fine of Rs.5,000 and Rs.10,000 on the shop for selling banned gutka.
This is the third time that the Food Safety Department had to impose a fine of Rs. 25,000 on Michael Raj who was involved in the sale of banned gutka items in his shop and hence the shop had to be sealed.
