In view of the ongoing national nutrition week celebrated between Sep 1-7, various awareness programmes are being conducted to instill amid the public on the importance of consuming balanced and nutritious food.
Coimbatore: Awareness programmes and rallies marked the celebration of National Nutrition Week in Coimbatore.
Every year, the first week of September is observed as National Nutrition week to raise awareness among the general public on the importance of healthy eating practices and a balanced nutrition. The theme for this year is "Celebrate a World of Flavors".
In a bid to create mass awareness amid people, over 300 Anganwadi workers took out a rally from the Coimbatore District Collectorate, on Friday The rally was flagged off by the District Collector, G S Sameeran from the District Collectorate.
More than 300 anganwadi workers participated in the rally, carrying placards on need for people especially children and pregnant women to eat nutritious food. The culminated at the VOC grounds.
As part of the programme, Anganwadi workers also conducted cultural programmes like kummiyattam and Oyilattam to garner public attention
Also present at the event were District Food Safety Designated Officer, Tamilselvan and staff of the health dept.
It is to be noted that due to the delay of the District Collector's arrival, the Anganwadi workers braved the heat patiently under umbrellas.
