Special pujas are being performed at Mundi Vinayagar Temple and Eachanari Vinayagar Temple in the Puliakulam area of Coimbatore from early Wednesday morning.
Coimbatore: Even as Ganesha Chaturthi is being celebrated with much festive gaiety across the country on Wednesday, various coloured idols of Ganesha were displayed and devotees paid obeisance in Coimbatore district.
Various forms of Ganesha idols were decorated and placed in public places by Hindu organizations and alms were distributed to needy devotees at various places.
Special pujas were conducted at the Munthi Ganesha temple in Puliakulam area which is the highest in Asia (19 feet) from early morning.
Devotees waited in long queues for a darshan of Lord Ganesha.
Similarly, special pujas are being performed at the Vinayagar temple in the popular Eachanari area from early morning.
City police are engaged in continuous patrolling throughout the district. The District Superintendent of Police, V Badrinarayanan announced that over 1600 policemen will be deployed on the day of dissolving the Ganesha idols in water bodies across Coimbatore.
