Led by senior CPI leader Arumugam and Coimbatore District Secretary Sivasamy, more than 50 cadres participated in the protest and raised slogans against the Central Government.
Coimbatore: Even as the Communist Party of India (CPI) cadres engaged in a state-wide protest against the Central Government on Tuesday, the CPI cadres in Coimbatore staged a protest in front of the Coimbatore District Collectorate condemning the Central Government and pressing for various demands.

The protest was led by senior CPI leader Arumugam and Coimbatore District Secretary, Sivasamy.

At a protest held in front of the Coimbatore Collectorate, the cadres raised slogans against the Central Government and urged the State Government to not be forced to implement the proposed power tariff hike.

Similarly, demands were also made, including a rollback of the house tax and property tax hike by the local bodies.

More than 50 CPI activists were detained and cleared out by the police.

A tense atmosphere prevailed in the area for some time due to the protest.
