Members of the jain community are celebrating the 8 day Paryushan Parv, the most holiest of the jain festival which started on Aug 24 and will end on Aug 31, 2022, Vinayaka chataurathi day
Coimbatore: Rajastani Jain Shwetambar Murti Pujak Sangh which administers the Suparswanath Jain Temple wore a festive look during paryushan parv. During this festival, all jain devotees fast during this festival and on 28th August, they celebrated the birth of Lord Mahavira after Jain monks read and explain one of the holy books kalpasutra.
This year Muniraj Teerthhemvijayji performed all the rituals at Suparswanath Jain Temple at RG Street, Coimbatore. According to temple President Vijayraj Chandaliya more than 250 devotees are doing Samuhik Varshitap, in which devotees just eat for 169 days a year and during the other days they do ‘upwas’ 36 hour fasting or Bela 61 hour fasting on alternative days.
Secretary of the temple Mahavir Mehta said that this temple is the biggest Jain Temple among the 11 jain temples in Coimbatore. The architecture is done in Sompuria way of white marble and a tall Shikarbhand temple gopuram or tower with no concrete used. Rhe temple has beautiful carving done by artisans from Rajasthan.
Varsitap cordinator Rakesh Bafna said that “the SSJSM youth wing, Varshitap Balika volunteers are working hard for the past 5 months to make things easy for the trustees to run day to day chores of the temple. Temple joint secretary Kiran Raj Tilsera said that the temple conducts Annadhanam (feast) for the needy at 10 am daily and gives fruits to all at 5 pm.”
Sripal Ostwal, President of SSJSM the youth wing said that “for the last 3 years during the coronavirus pandemic, our volunteers numbering 250 rose to the occasion and helped people with hygienic food and distributed groceries to their homes. This social work was appreciated by district administration and by corporation health department too”
The temple has been fortunate enough to have chaturmas or holy four months religious rejuvenation presided by Muniraj Teerthhemvijayji, three monks and sadhviji Padma Jyoti Sriji and six disciples. The monks don't use electricity and don't use any mode of transport. The monks numbering 9 have walked all the way from Chennai where they did last chaturmas. The monks are happy that 27 years ago their Gurudev Acharya Kalapurna Suri Swarji Marasaheb did Kumbhashisekham or Pran Pratishta here.
Speaking about the special occasion, the monks said that “the world will be in peace if everyone follows the path of lord Mahavira of live and let live. Be grateful but be more compassionate, because gratefulness is related to attachment, compassion is related to liberation.”
All the Jains will conclude on Wednesday the 8 day paryushan parv with the group prayers lasting 160 minutes called Samavatsari Pratikaman which all 70 lakh minority Jain community world wide will perform. All Jain's will ask Michamidukhdam on that day and ask for forgiveness. This day is celebrated as International Forgiveness day on August 17th. BJP State President, Annamalai after getting blessings from Jain Acharya Niityanandasuriswarji at Chennai had asked Michamidukhdam which was much appreciated by the vast audience at the religious convention. On the last day of paryushan parv all meat shops are closed all over India.
