Heavy rain in Coimbatore: Singanallur-Vellalore footbridge washed away for 3rd time this monsoon

Public allege that people's tax money is being wasted because the Vellalore land bridge was constructed without proper planning, it is often washed away by water and repairs are taking place.

Coimbatore: Coimbatore experienced heavy rain since last night. Heavy rains accompanied by thunder and lightning for more than 3 hours left various main tunnels submerged.

In this case, the temporary footbridge on the Vellalur-Singanallur road, one of the main roads connecting the suburbs with the Coimbatore Corporation, was flooded again due to flooding in the Noyal river due to heavy rains.

It is noteworthy that this is the third time that this land bridge has been swept away by floods in the last two months. Traffic on the stretch has been affected again as the flyover has been swept away by the floods.

Construction of a high-level bridge over the Noyal River is underway. For this, the ground level bridge was demolished and a new temporary ground bridge was constructed for vehicles. After being washed away twice by floods, restoration work was carried out.

However, for the third time the causeway was washed away by the flood. Due to this, vehicles are prohibited on that road. Due to this, motorists have to travel around 10 kilometers to reach urban areas.

Citizens have alleged that tax money is being wasted as temporary footbridges are constructed without proper planning, washed away by floods and rehabilitated.
