Coimbatore: Owing to lack of work opportunities and an alcoholic addiction during the pandemic, Sekhar (47) picked up a quarrel over property with his elder brother Azhagu (54), a labourer from Saibaba Colony in Coimbatore and stabbed him to death in May 2020, in a fit of rage.
It is reported that to get money for drinking alcohol, Sekhar frequently quarrelled with his mother Palaniammal and brother Azhagu, demanding that the property be divided. During one such dispute in May 2020, in a fit of rage, Sekhar stabbed Azhagu to death. Sekhar, who was arrested in the case, was lodged in the Coimbatore Central Jail.
The trial for the murder case was held at the Coimbatore bomb blasts special court. Judge D Baalu sentenced Sekhar to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 1,000 on him for stabbing his brother to death.
