Justice Logeswaran of Special Courts under Essential Commodities and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act in Coimbatore, awarded 10 years imprisonment along with a fine of Rs.2 lakhs for a woman who was found guilty in a ganja case.
Coimbatore: R.Poongothai (46), wife of Rajan of Pallapalayam near Erode had been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of two lakhs for procuring and selling ganja by a city court, on Thursday.
Acting upon a tip-off, to the Coimbatore Narcotics Intelligence Bureau, on September 8, 2020, a team of officials intercepted and arrested Poongothai in Erode while she was proceeding in her scooty two-wheeler near Veerappan Chanthiram in Erode. The police seized 16 kg of ganja in her possession.
While the case was handled at the Special Courts under Essential Commodities and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act in Coimbatore, Justice Logeswaran during the final hearing on Thursday, found the accused guilty and sentenced her to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 2 lakhs.
