Coimbatore: Workers attached to the CITU staged an agitation condemning the Bharath Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and MDRS contractors in front of the BPCL office at Peelamedu, here today.

Alleging that the BPCL being a central government organisation is not offering any benefits to its employees including ESI and PF benefits. The agitators said that they have been been working for paltry salaries.
They also charged that three persons have been suspended on trumped-up charges including CITU President Vignesh, Suresh, and Vijay and employees have been transferred on flimsy grounds and salaries delayed.
The establishment is also indulged in obtaining signed letters forcing them not to indulge in trade union activities, they alleged.
While not heeding to the advice of the Central Labour Commission, the BPCL and MDRS contractors have indulged in taking vengeful actions against the employees they said and added that untrained employees have been engaged in cylinder delivery, thus affecting consumer interests.

While demanding pay hike for their services, the agitating employees later submitted their demands as a petition to the district collector.
