Padmabharathi’s work was hailed for redefining anthropology research in Tamil Nadu.
Erode: The Tamil Wiki Periasamy Thooran Award was presented to anthropologist N Karasur Padmabharathi. The ceremony took place in Raj Mahal, Goundachipalayam in Erode. The award included a sum of Rs.2 lakh and a sculpture.

Swami Brahmananda of the Vidyaranya Ashram, Malaysia spoke felicitating the awardee. Folk scholar A K Perumal in his speech felicitated Padmabharathi’s work stating that it redefined anthropology research in Tamil Nadu.
"According to a study by the International Institute of Tamil Studies, very few books based on Ph.D. theses coming out of Tamil Nadu are worthy publications. Padmabharathi’s books are foremost among them. Her book about the transgender community in Tamil Nadu (Thirunangaiyar - oru ) is entirely new and informative, recording 18 previously unknown stories about the community," said A K Perumal.
Writer Jeyamohan, speaking about Tamil Wiki spoke about the importance of creating encyclopedias. He spoke about the need for high intellectual standards in research. He praised Karasur Padmabharathi for her high standards and said her being selected for the award was a unanimous decision. "She had made the first foray into understanding the lives of marginalized communities like Narikkuravas and transgender people," added Jeyamohan.
