Coimbatore:A consultative meeting was held to open the sluices of Thirumoorthy damfor the "second mandalam" of irrigation on August 26 at Pollachi in Coimbatore district.
Superintending Engineer (PAP) Devarajan, presided over the meeting which was held at PAP office at Pollachi.
Meanwhile, Thirumoorthy Dam Planning committee President, Paramasivam said that the Government's move to supply waters to Oddanchathiram from Aliyar dam would not be implemented without consulting the farming community of the region. The Government had already given a promise on that count, he added.
The farmers expect the farmer leaders of "Pasana sabhai" heads and members to be taken into confidence before implementing the scheme. If the government acts unilaterally, the farmers would take to protests to achieve their aim.
Adding that a fund allocation of Rs.7 crore has been sought from the government to renovate the channel networks in the system, he saidif it is not released on time, we would take up renovation work using the maintenance funds.
We have also approached the Collector to engage MGNREGS workers for the renovation work, to be carried out and noted thatPasana sabhai meetings will be held on monthly basis, in which the respective Assistant Engineers would take part.
And, the renovation of Kandur channel would be expected and finished on time, he added.
