Coimbatore: Police arrested a mother - daughter duo Sumathi and Priyadarshini of Usilampatti for stealing gold jewellery from a jewellery store at Big bazaar street, here.
According to police, on January 2022, the two women clad in Burga, on the pretext of buying jewellery at a jewellery store in Big Bazaar Street here swapped imitation jewellery for gold jewellery and left the shop.
Following a police complaint by the shop owner Selvam the police were on the look out for the duo.
However, the police arrested the two women, when they were lounging in the big bazaar street. Upon interrogation, they confessed of stealing the jewels.
The duo have been produced in court and remanded in custody. Investigations are on to learn if the duo were involved in any other thefts.
