Coimbatore: Both Kerala and Tamil Nadu forest department are closely monitoring the ailing male tusker which was found at a waterhole near Anaikati of the Periyanaickenpalayam forest range.
As the elephant continued to roam to and fro between the borders, both state forest departments are in a ready state to capture the animal and treat it. According to initial reports, the tusker is suspected to be suffering from infection, as foaming was spotted from its mouth.
The tusker is weak and not consumed food for days or may be the ailment has been getting worse. However, the tusker is alert and aggressive as it charges us when we try to get any closer, say forest sources.
Meanwhile, arrangements have been made to bring Kumkis' - Kalim and Chinnathambi from Topslip to capture the tusker and commence treatment.
Drones were also deployed by the PN Palayam forest dept to closely monitor the tusker. Antibiotics and other supplements including salts were stuffed inside jack fruits and placed near the waterhole.
All attempts are made to treat the tusker, at the earliest.
