Investigations revealed that the student had already attempted suicide by consuming poison in May, last year and hence the DGP issued an order to transfer the student's suicide case to the CB-CID.
Coimbatore: Prathosh Kumar, a first-year Biotech student at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) ended his life by suicide by hanging himself on August 10. The RS Puram police had registered a case and are investigating the matter.
On the orders of DGP Sylendra Babu, the case has now been transferred to the CB-CID.
Prathosh Kumar (19) is the son of Palani, who works as a Government bus conductor in the Tiruvannamalai district. Prathosh Kumar reportedly had a desire to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Forestry but was studying Biotech due to the unavailability of seats in the Forestry Department.
Investigations revealed that the student Prathosh Kumar had already attempted suicide. In May 2021, Prathosh who was frustrated at not being able to study his desired course of Forestry attempted suicide by grinding a Mexican Yellow Oleander plant in the hostel of TNAU.
On August 10, Prathosh died by suicide, by hanging himself in the TANU hostel room. A case of suicide has been registered and after a preliminary investigation conducted by the RS Puram police, it was revealed that the student was in a state of mental distress due to the unavailability of his desired Forestry Department and hence chose to end his life.
Now that the case has been transferred to the CB-CID, the CB-CID police have begun the investigation from the student's house in Thiruvannamalai in the first phase.
