G K Nagaraj reiterated that he would give the Government time till the end of September to complete the Athikadavu-Avinashi project.
Coimbatore: The BJP Farmers' Wing State President, G K Nagaraj held a press conference at the Coimbatore Press Club in Coimbatore.
Speaking to the media, G K Nagaraj stated that the Athikadavu-Avinashi project which was launched three years ago by the former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami at a cost of Rs.1856 crores is now lying neglected and unheard of. He added that the project would benefit about 2,000 ponds in Coimbatore, out of which another 800 ponds are yet to be connected.
"Edappadi K Palaniswami had carried out the project without any hindrance even during the Covid-19 period. The project was to be completed by January 2021, but the project has been stuck till now, even after the DMK government took over the reins. The project had been pending for 17 months as the 2.2-km pipeline had not been laid. If the project alone had been completed last year, there would have been various benefits. Some people are preventing the installation of a pipeline in the area at the instigation of the DMK.
After the DMK came to power, some farmers wanted to lay the pipeline and demanded compensation to stop the project. I had written a letter to Chief Minister M K Stalin in this regard, but there was no response. At the end of September, the public and farmers were mobilised to lay siege to the Athikadavu-Avinashi project office to press for the full implementation of the Athikadavu-Avinashi project. We will agitate by laying siege to the project's office as well as in Chennai with 1,000 vehicles."
G K Nagaraj reiterated that he would give the Government time till the end of September to complete the Athikadavu-Avinashi project. "Officials are ready to complete it but it is the Government that was delaying it. There are doubts whether the DMK is making profits by delaying the project and thereby increasing the value of the project again.
There is no initiative to implement all of the Central Government's schemes in Tamil Nadu while only implementing some of them. Once the BJP comes to power in Tamil Nadu, all the schemes of the Central government will go to the people," emphasized G K Nagaraj.
