The Collector who earlier took part in the anti drug oath taking ceremony said to root out drugs from society, a new enforcement wing and an integrated Coordination Centre, with the participation of various departments would also be set up to end the menace in the city.
Coimbatore: District collector GS Sameeran said the urgent measures would be taken to end drug abuse among school and college students and anti-drug clubs will be set up in all the schools and colleges to end this menace.
The collector who earlier took part in the anti drug oath taking ceremony presided over and imparted by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K Stalin through video conference, later, while addressing the media said that a conference to defeat drugs was held earlier in which all the District Collectors, Police Commissioners and other higher officials took part.
As a part of new measures to root out drugs from society, a new enforcement wing would be created to check drug menace in every district. An integrated Coordination Centre, with the participation of various departments would also be set up to end the menace in the city.
Further adding the collector said that anti-drug clubs to be started in schools and colleges would function under the aegis of NCC and NSS volunteers of schools and colleges.
Adding that regular raids were carried out to prevent the sale of drugs in shops, he said so far 478 raids were conducted in shops, and Rs.24 lakh fine collected and erring shops have also been sealed. An amount of Rs.13 lakhs have been collected as fine till July 31, he apprised.
