Coimbatore: Police Sniffer dogs were pressed into service in the Gandhipuram bus stand of Coimbatore, as part of strengthening the surveillance in view of the 75th Independence day celebrations.
A team led by Assistant Commissioner Stephen led the operation in which shops and passengers luggage were checked by the sniffer dogs.
According to police, the exercise will continue till August 15, and more police men in strength would be deployed for security duty in vital junctions all over the city.
During the operation, the sniffer dogs were also used to check whether shopkeepers are selling the banned gukta products in Gandhipuram area.
The police warned that stern action would be initiated against those who indulge in selling of the banned Gutka products.
