MLAs Amman Arjun and K.R. Jayaraman, petitioned District Collector and the Police Commissioner to initiate stern action against poster menace in the city, lest the AIADMK would enter the scene and conduct a campaign to remove the posters.
Coimbatore: Two AIADMK legislators Amman Arjun ( North Coimbatore) and K.R. Jayaraman (Singanallur) have petitioned District Collector GS Sameeran and the Police commissioner Balakrishanpraying to take stern action against poster menace in the city, lest the AIADMK would enter the scene and conduct a campaign to remove the posters.
Condemning the poster menace in the city they said in their complaint that public spaces particularly the flyovers in the city are being defaced with posters, bills and flex boards thus defacing every wall and flyover in the city corporation limits, which might divert the roadusers and may cause accidents.
The legislators wanted the perpetrators brought to book and punished forthwith. If no immediate action was forthcoming they warned that they would rally the support of the general public and a poster removing campaign would be spearheaded by the AIADMK in the city limits.
It may be recalled that Corporation Commissioner M. Prathap issued a warning regarding using public spaces and flyover pillars for advertising using posters. He warned of legal action and fine, if any parties involve in violating the order.
And, recently the Collector had convened a special meeting to end poster menace in the city recently following which defacing the walls with posters is banned by the Police Commissioner. While police arrested one person, cases were also slapped on a few more, who despised the ban and one person was also arrested in this regard.
The City Police had allotted 10 days to remove the posters and flex boards, but to no avail.
