Minister Senthil Balalji also announced at the DMK district meeting that arrangements are being made to build a new party office for the DMK in Coimbatore district, for which a site has been selected on Avinashi Road and the construction work of the building is underway.
Coimbatore: Minister Senthil Balaji chaired a meeting of the DMK's combined district office bearers at a private hotel in Coimbatore's Nava India area.
Minister Senthil Balaji held discussions with the office bearers of the Coimbatore combined district Youth Wing, Student Wing and Women's Wing.
Addressing the media later, Minister Senthil Balaji said, "The Dravidian workshop will be held on August 12, 13 and 14 of this month across 10 assembly constituencies in Coimbatore district. We are planning to gather thousands of youth to attend each workshop.
Arrangements are being made to build a new party office for the DMK in Coimbatore district. A site has been selected on Avinashi Road and the construction work of the building is underway. The foundation stone will be laid very soon under the chairmanship of the DMK Youth Wing Secretary."
The Minister also detailed the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's visit to Coimbatore saying, "CM M K Stalin will visit Coimbatore on the 23rd of this month. 82,000 people will be distributed welfare assistance at an event held at Kinathukadavu on August 24. Following which, a ceremony will be held in Pollachi on the same day in which 50,000 people including those from other parties will join DMK."
Commenting on the hike in power tariff, Minister Senthil Balaji stated, "The DMK has strongly opposed the Union Government's new Electricity Amendment Act which will adversely affect 100 units of free electricity provided to farmers, power looms and hutments The DMK will continue to press for the withdrawal of the Act.
Tamil Nadu's leader of the opposition, Edappadi K Palaniswami has lied that the AIADMK Government has never increased the electricity tariff in the last 10 years. The electricity tariff was increased in 2012, 2013 and 2014. The BJP is the master of AIADMK since AIADMK does not have the capacity to think for itself. AIADMK will do what the BJP says", he slammed.
A petition has been filed by a group of industrialists led by Coimbatore CODISSIA members regarding the increase in power tariff by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. There is an opportunity to record their views at the upcoming hearings and I would also look into their petition, the Minister added.
"As far as Coimbatore is concerned, we have started to work on 3041 booth-wise areas in the district for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Out of the 31 lakh voters in Coimbatore district, we are planning and working to ensure that 10 lakh voters are DMK members", he apprised.
As regards the Rajini-Governor meeting, it would not be right to comment on it without exactly knowing anything about it, concluded Minister Senthil Balaji.
