The Collector said that the people should come forward to visit the expo and buy handloom products to help popularize it. Handloom products should be encouraged to give fillip to lives of handloom weavers.
Coimbatore: District collector G.S. Sameeran on Sunday inaugurated the exhibition cum special discount sale on the occasion of the 8th National Handlooms day at the “Loom world” showroom at Saibaba colony in the city.

He also distributed Rs. 50,000 each of loan amount to 15 handloom weavers at a total outlay of Rs.7.5 lakhs, as part of Mudra scheme.
Speaking on the occasion the collector said that the government and private sector should come forward to showcase the handloom products in their offices to help popularize it.The handlooms products should be encouragedto give fillip to lives of handloom weavers.
Assistant director (Handlooms) Sivakumar, Handloom officers Bommaiah, Samy and Kalaivani took part in the event.
The Handloom day is observed to commemorate the “Swadeshi” movement and theboycott of foreign goods and on August 7 in 1905 during the country’s freedom movement. It was declared to use only homemade and indigenous products during the August 7 declaration.
