Hindu Munnani functionary arrested for allegedly assaulting Christian man standing on the road in Coimbatore accusing him of conversion

Podanur police arrested a Hindu Munnani executive who assaulted Christian man near Nanjundapuram who had put on a shirt with Jesus sayings on them, thinking that they had come to convert people.


Coimbatore: Spenti Leberson (33), a Christian, belongs to Meenawar Colony, Veliyapatti, Tuticorin District. Yesterday he came to Coimbatore with his two friends, Rajasekhar and Selvam, to visit his wife's uncle in Ramanathapuram area.

It seems that he stopped the vehicle near Nanjundapuram Bridge and inquired about the address and was talking. At the time, Spenty Leberson and his friends were apparently wearing clothes printed with bible versus about Jesus.



Uthaman (31), a functionary of the Hindu Munnani who came there, started an argument with Spenty and their friends. Also, he was allegedly kicked and pushed down. There was a commotion as people gathered there.

Later, the Podanur police who were on the patrol rescued Spenti Leberson, Rajasekhar and Selvam and took them from there. Subsequently, on the basis of the complaint filed by Spenti Leberson, against Uthaman, a prominent Hindu Munnani functionary,

Podanur police arrested him after registering a case under sections 341, 294(b), 323,506(i).

The arrested Hindu Munnani functionary has already got few other cases pending against him, including inciting violence.
