The charges for surgery for cows has been drastically hiked from Rs.10 a few days ago to Rs.250 in a single blow.
Coimbatore: Cattle meat traders in Coimbatore have petitioned District Collector G S Sameeran seeking a reduction in charges for cow surgery.
Earlier, the surgery charges collected were only Rs.10 per cow at the two cow operation centres functioning in Coimbatore Corporation, but now the surgery charge has been fixed for Rs.250 for each cow, after the new contract has been awarded. Protesting against this, cattle meat traders in Coimbatore shut their shops on Thursday demanding a reduction in fees.
On behalf of the Cattle Meat Traders Association, a petition has been submitted to the Coimbatore District Collector seeking a reduction in the surgery charges for cows.
In Coimbatore district alone, there are 300 cattle meat vendors in the Corporation area. The hike in surgery charges for cows from Rs.10 a few days ago to Rs.250 comes as a single blow for cattle meat traders. They opined that the hike could be at least Rs.50 - Rs.100, but Rs.250 was a steep increase.
The cattle meat traders reiterated that they would continue to engage in various protests till the surgery charges for the cows were reduced.
