Tirupur: The police arrested Congress cadres in Tirupur for staging a sit-in protest at the Head Post Office against the BJP Government.

The Congress cadres gheraoed the Central Government in front of the Tirupur Kumaran Memorial for the hike in prices of essential commodities like petrol, diesel and cooking gas.

They also raised slogans against the Central Government for targeting the opposition parties with the Enforcement Directorate in its hands.

Thereafter, the Congress cadres took out a procession and laid siege to the Tirupur Head Post Office and staged a sit-in protest.

Following this, the police arrested more than 100 people, including the Tirupur City District President Krishnan and took them to a nearby marriage hall.

The protest created tension in the area for a while among locals.
