The male elephant was found dead with injuries inflicted by a tusker in the dense Anaikatti South forest area under the Thudiyalur division of the Coimbatore forest range.
Coimbatore: On information from a herdsman Ponnusamy, a forest ranger rushed to the Coimbatore forest reserve to find a male elephant dead, due to injuries reportedly inflicted by a tusker. Two male elephants reportedly were fighting in the dense Anaikatti South forest area under the Thudiyalur division of the Coimbatore forest range.
The forest ranger arrived at the spot around 2 pm on Thursday and on finding a male elephant dead, immediately informed the higher authorities. Forest officials including the forest ranger conducted an inspection. The officials have intensified surveillance in the forest reserve to ascertain the whereabouts of the other elephant and attend to its injuries if need be.
According to the Forest Department officials, the dead male elephant was 40 years old and a post-mortem is scheduled for Friday.
