Coimbatore: Members of various Hindu outfits and the general public vociferously protested against the city corporation who engaged in an eviction operation of a Siva temple located at Kalapatti area, here on Thursday.
According to sources, acting upon court orders, a JCB machine was engaged to evict the roadside Siva temple popularly known as "Suyumbukarvarkiya" Sivan temple.
The Hindu outfit cadres who thronged the place objected to the planned eviction and engaged in a wordy duel with the officials. They also obstructed the poclain machine demanding that the eviction operation be stopped. However, the eviction operation was carried out after some time and the temple wall was demolished.
Witnessing the demolition, the Hindu outfit cadres raised “Om Nama Sivaya” slogans and openly shed tears unable to bear the demolition. The issue created ruckus in the area for a brief time.
