The Forest Department has detected the movement of elephants and is providing security to the locals.
Coimbatore: Wild elephants have vandalized a tea shop near Valparai, causing panic among the public.
The movement of wild elephants has been on the rise in the Valparai area of Coimbatore district. Even as the wild elephants move from one forest terrain to another, they stray into residential areas and rampage houses, grocery stores and feeding centers, in search of food. The Forest Department has been frequently driving away these straying elephants.

A tea shop in the privately-owned Nallamudi Estate near Valparai was raided by seven wild elephants on Tuesday night. The herd damaged the shop and broke its windows and doors, while also destroying the stove, food items etc., stored in the shop.
On information about the herd's rampage, forest officials rushed to the shop and chased the elephants away. The locals were in panic and requested the Forest Department to take action to drive away the wild elephants back into the dense forests.
