Walkers have complained to the police that there is a risk of accidents due to those driving at high speed on the Race Course round about pavement.
Coimbatore: Road improvement works are being carried out for smart city project works in Coimbatore Race Course area. There are complaints that vehicles are plying on the walking pavement in the roundabout area even though there is enough space to ply the vehicles by road.

Currently, as smart city works are underway across the Race Course area, those who are already taking a walk are facing inconvenience. Now many motorists drive vehicles on the footpath and the public are not able to walk peacefully, they alleged.

All sections of the society, including the elderly and women, have demanded that the police should take strict action against motorists who are violating traffic rules and that there is a possibility of a major accident due to overspeeding.
Speaking on the complaint, Coimbatore City Traffic Police Deputy Commissioner, Mathivanan said, "The footpath is a place set up for the public to walk. Strict action will be taken against those who violate the rules and drive vehicles at high speed at the site, he warned.
