Criminal cases will be filed if posters are pasted in public places - Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner warns

The Corporation Commissioner has warned that if anyone is found in violation of the order, the concerned company, advertising agency, trade unions, political organizations, public events and public who paste about family events will be fined and criminal cases will be registered. It is to be noted, previous such orders by earlier authorities were not enforced by the administration.

Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M. Pratap has warned that strict action will be taken if posters are pasted on public places, government office buildings and flyover pillars.

It is an offense under the law to stick advertisements or run posters on flyovers including Avinashi flyover, Ramanathapuram flyover and government office buildings in the Coimbatore Corporation area. But advertising posters are being put up in all parts of Coimbatore without discrimination.

"Because of these posters, it is no exaggeration to say that Coimbatore, which is called a smart city, is looking like a "worst city". One poster on top of another poster, flyovers, telephone junction boxes, power lines, trees are all posters here in Coimbatore.

Political Parties, Media, Advertising Agencies in Coimbatore have abused the poster culture. Poster culture is ruining the city like it has leased flyover pillars and walls," say social activists.

SimpliCity has so far exposed the lack of enforcement of this order over 10 times over the last 3-4 years.

In this case, Corporation Commissioner Pratap has ordered that advertisement posters should not be pasted on flyovers, government buildings, road blocks and electric poles in Coimbatore Corporation areas.

He warned that in case of violation of the order, the concerned company, advertising agency, trade unions, political organizations, public event and family events will be fined and criminal cases will be registered.

The public and social activists who have welcomed the order of the Corporation Commissioner, have made strict use of this warning to make Kovai, a poster-free city and have demanded that continuous monitoring and action be taken to ensure that public places are poster-free in the future.
